Most contractors think steel trusses is a better choice for roofing

You probably don’t spend time thinking about your home’s roof. But this is something of great importance, as the ‘roof’, could signify the ‘head’; It is even more so when the above constructed ‘head-roof’ equivalence is measured up against the popular dictum, “A fish would rot and go bad starting from the head”. To understand this better, imagine yourself in a roofless home!

Ordinarily the only time a roof gets our attention is when it’s damaged or when it’s leaking. Even then, the type of decking used to rest the roofing materials have immense impact on our budget; It would, therefore, be prudent to choose a decking type that lasts perpetually.

Negative effect of Extreme weather conditions on wood

For example, steel trusses do not experience rot or wart and are not likely to deteriorate due to weather condition. Also, steel trusses can be left exposed to the vagaries of the typical Sub-Sahara conditions in Ghana. And since it’s protected against rust.

More importantly, the steel members are uniformly formed or fabricated thus preventing the probable bulging of some members. On the contrary, unlike timber/wood which is not usually shaped to the smoothest or equally levelled texture before forming a wood deck with it. The ability to fabricate the steel components off-site makes it much easy to install as compared to the wood.

The steel members easily resist fire , therefore fire arising from electrical faults or fireworks may not affect the steal members.

Low Maintenance Cost For Steel Trusses

The maintenance cost for steel is low. Replacement of the steel members or trusses is not an issue to think about. Leakages do not affect it. Choosing steel trusses basically means total protection against fire, air and water.

These are bad servers to wood: Choosing wood, you have the responsibility to periodically check for signs of rot and wart or perhaps complete fall off due to long effect of rot and wart.

The only predetermined disadvantage as a Ghanaian builder who chooses steel structure is the initial high cost of installation. But that shouldn’t be of major concern if you are in for a recyclable material.

Steel trusses come with the added advantage of durability, whereas if as a result of financial difficulties or unforeseen event and the builder decides to abandon the project, the trusses can be left exposed for long period without any effect.

Alas, while you may want to limit cost in the long run. And in addition to an enhanced security, Steel trusses are a sure bet in many respects.
